My first art retreat

August 2, 2008 at 3:14 pm 2 comments

I’m excited about attending the ZNE CONVENZIONE 2008 in a few weeks in Pleasanton, CA. I’ve registered for Lisa Kaus’ workshop “Gridlocked” and am on my way to pick up a few materials for the class.

Since I’ve never been to any retreats (just read about them) I’m just thrilled that there’s so much going on, with a lot of diversity ranging from a chance to walkaround Pleasanton Main Street, a film screening of 1000 journals, group meals and chances to meet so many talented artists including Michele Beschen.

Hi, I’m Karla, don’t feel alone about it being your first event. I’ve only attended one. Silver Bella last year.

This event looked fun and in Cali, so I checked my piggy bank and he had enough for this ZNE event. I really wanted to take Lisa Kaus’ class but it was filled so I’m in Sally Jean’s class and I’m happy with that. Maybe Lisa will be selling kits.

Can I ask you if you have ever been to Castle in the Air in your town? I’m driving for Southern California and will be taking a side trip to visit this amazing little art store. I thought you might be quite close to Pleasanton, are’nt you? 40 miles or so?

    Looking forward to some fun.

Hope you don’t mind the questions.

    Hi Karla–

I certainly don’t mind the questions! I’m looking forward to the conference.

Castle in the Air is really pretty good and their classes are too (but you won’t be able to do that on this trip…). It’s not huge but I can spend a long time in there personally. It’s also really close to Scrapbook Territory which is huge and Paper Source is a couple blocks away. Oh, and there is a cute Japanese paper store next door to Castle in the Air. And lastly, there is a Blix art supply store a few blocks away near the freeway exit.

Funny–only a SoCal person would probably say that 40 miles is pretty close 😉 I think Berkeley and Pleasanton are far from each other! But yes, considering how huge LA County is, it’s true that it’s only relative! And I guess now I realize how lucky I am to have so much art and craft materials so nearby!

Looking forward to meeting you in a few days–
